Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance

April 28, 2011 By Coach Lisa

With Insanity, you can get strong and lean with MAX intensity intervals of strength, resistance, sports drills and plyometrics. No equipment needed, just YOU. There are no modifiers in this workout. So remember to go at your own pace and modify on your own if needed.

Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance comes in at 40 minutes and is one of 5 DVDs that you do for the first month of Insanity. These workouts will burn fat like crazy using extreme cardio, plyometrics, and MAX interval training techniques. Month 2 introduces additional workouts, but you need to build up to those during month 1.

The 10-minute warm-up in Cardio Power and Resistance will feel like an intense workout until you get used to it.

You start by jogging while keeping the core tight and move into power jacks (jacks with a squat), yes! That is just part of the warm-up. Even though it’s the warm-up, you will work hard. From butt kicks, kicking those heels up high in the back, to log jumps where you power up side to side.

Go at your own pace – Cardio Power and Resistance is not for the faint of heart. When you go into high knees, Shaun T. makes it look easy but they are super hard. You use your core to lift your knees. That’s how to get the most out of the workout. The vertical jumps will have your quadriceps burning but you still need to keep your mental focus to power through.

Then you start the whole routine over again, just faster!

Finally, you get a brief 10-second water break followed by a well-deserved stretch. But wait, the real workout has not even started yet! You’ll be thankful for the 10 minutes of intense stretches.

Another water break and then go straight into power jumps, belt kicks working the glutes and hip flexors, side-to-side hit the floor and power ups, hurdle jumps, and other exercises that will test your inner power.

The real workout is not too long, but remember, these are explosive cardio and plyometric drills and non-stop intervals of strength, power and resistance. This is no moderate workout, you’ll do long periods of high-intensity exercise followed by short period of rest. That’s what MAX Interval Training is all about.

INSANITY’s high-intensity activity is likely to have you working out at over 85% of your maximum, instead of the lower rate recommended in other programs. As a result, you’ll experience faster increases in fitness and more efficient burning of carbohydrates and fat—as much as 1,000 calories per hour.

Shaun T. will keep you motivated too! It’s all about focus and mental power.
