How Does the Les Mills BodyPump Rep Effect Work?

November 28, 2011 By Coach Lisa

What exercise resistance program has awesome music, gets you in shape, and strengthen your body? The one and only Les Mills BodyPump, the workout of choice for over 6 million people a week! We are so excited that BodyPump will be available soon as a home workout too, called Les Mills Pump!

With BodyPump by Les Mills, you get in shape fast with high repetition movements and low weight loads. That’s called The Rep Effect. Can you imagine doing 70 to 100 repetitions per body part? That’s about 800 movements in a regular workout.

Believe me, it’s so much fun, you’ll hardly notice that the class takes one hour. You perform the workout moves to fun music tracks that help motivate you.

Most of the moves are performed using the following equipment:

  • Bar
  • Plates of different sizes to use on the bar
  • Clips to keep the plates in place
  • Bench with risers

At the start of the class, the instructor will review what is called the “set” position. The set position helps people stand with great posture. You must perform all the exercises with good form and posture, the key to getting the most out of your BodyPump class. By understanding the correct set position and form, you can create strength and a strong foundation for lifting weights.

The main moves you perform in this workout are squats, chest press, deadrow, clean and press, press pullover combo, lunges, and reverse curls. By using light to moderate weights and high repetitions, you exhaust your muscles. That is the Rep Effect at work!

By using this specialized Les Mills method, you burn more calories and develop and strong, lean body!
The BodyPump class is done in the following order:

  • Warmup
  • Squats
  • Chest
  • Back/Hamstrings
  • Triceps
  • Biceps
  • Lunges/Legs
  • Shoulders
  • Abs
  • Cool down

Get your water and towel and get yourself to a Les Mills BodyPump class at a location near you! You can also start with the home workout, Les Mills Pump when it’s available in late December. Either way, you’ll be burning up the calories!
