Do you start the year out strong, staying consistent with your workouts? You may have decided to eat healthy meals, take your lunch to work, and make healthy snacks.
It’s common to fall away from your original goals. In fact, it happens every year to the best of us. You fall back to old eating habits and suddenly can’t find the time to workout.
There’s a million reasons why you might not achieve your health goals. But you can get back on track.
It’s easy to beat yourself up and feel like, why bother! Don’t be a downer.

Tips to get your fitness and health back on track
Here’s a few tips to get back on track with your health and fitness. You can do it!
Be specific with your goals
Was your original goal specific or general? I’ve seen lots of people make goals like:
- I will eat healthy.
- I will lose weight.
- I want to get in shape.
What do those goals really mean? How much weight will you lose? Did you plan on how many pounds you need to lose each week to meet your goal?
How about eating healthy? What’s the plan? How will you know what to buy or cook?
Getting in shape can mean so many things. Do you want to get more toned or get in better cardio shape.
Knowing exactly what you want to achieve will help you find a fitness program that will get you there. And Beachbody On Demand has a program for everyone!

Practice mindfulness
Have you ever sat in front of the television, watching an exciting movie, while munching on chips? Suddenly, you reach in the bag and there’s none left!
Did you enjoy every bite or was it just habitual munching that didn’t give you much enjoyment? I’ve been there! My kryptonite is pretzels! I can munch through a bag like nobody’s business and not enjoy one.
That’s what we call “mindless eating”. When I learned about “mindful eating”, food and snacks became more enjoyable.
Instead of eating while doing something else at the same time, make time to enjoy what you’re eating. Get a plate, sit at the table, and enjoy every bite!
Being mindful in anything just means being more aware of what you’re experiencing. You’ll enjoy the experience that much more!
Find your why
Sometimes people do things to please others, or maybe they think they should do this or that. But those types of reasons are not motivating for very long.
True motivation comes from within. What does it mean for YOU to reach this goal? Think about your deep down WHY for achieving it. It you want to lose weight, visualize how you will feel once the weight comes off. What does that mean to you?
That’s how you find your WHY. Your WHY gives you the meaningfulness you need to stay motivated in the long run.
It’s not all or nothing
Many years ago, I decided to change my eating habits. I threw out everything and started over. It was all or nothing for me. Problem was, it didn’t work for me.
I got my hands on some old habit food and totally erased the progress I previously made.
It’s not bad to slip up sometimes. Give yourself some slack to go off your eating plan sometimes.
Maybe a transition plan will work better for you. Give yourself a period of time to transition to your new healthier eating plan so it’s not an all or nothing deal.
Be accountable
Without accountability or someone to talk to, staying on track can be more of a challenge. Get involved with an accountability group or a few friends that understand.
Talking about food and fitness can be so helpful, especially when you’re struggling. Even better, find a buddy to work out with! Workout buddies are the best support!
Each night, assess your day. How did you do? Get a journal and write it down so you can track and stay accountable to yourself.
Just remember, if you get off track with health and fitness, you can always get back on track. It’s never too late.
