Rock climbing life after P90XYou finished P90X. Your body transformation is amazing. After 90 days of following the intense P90X program by Beachbody, you feel great, motivated, and have renewed cardiovascular endurance. What is next?

First, congratulate yourself on a job well done! In completing P90X and achieving amazing results, you really learned how to incorporate healthy habits into your daily activities. Heath and fitness is a lifestyle, not just something you do for a time and then stop.

Explore the possibilities of how you want to continue your new fit lifestyle. Each person is different so, my possibilities may be different then yours, but hopefully you will get some ideas. Remember, the possibilities in life are endless! Here are some things I thought about:

  • Start over with a different P90X program. Originally, I did P90X Lean.
  • Get P90X Plus and incorporate those routines into P90X Lean.
  • Take 2 weeks off and keep a smile on my face.
  • Continue my hiking and trail running, incorporating P90X into alternate days.
  • Try another Beachbody program that will challenge me in other ways, like Chalene Extreme.
  • Start doing indoor rock climbing once a week. Before P90X, I did not have the upper body strength to do rock climbing and am excited that now I do!
  • Take a kick-boxing class. I know I can do it because I gained balance, strength, and control in Kenpo X.
  • Fill my cupboard and refrigerator with foods that energize me and contribute to my health.
  • Drink Shakeology everyday – it’s a great supplement to my daily diet and helps me keep up with myself!

The list can go on. I am sure you will come up with many possibilities for yourself. I ended up taking a break for 1 week while I decided how to continue. Then, I started P90X over again, this time doing the P90X standard program. I found it to be even better the second time around. I was able to get more out of it and push myself even harder. I coupled P90X with my outdoor activities, so for example, I would skip the Cardio X and instead go trail running.

I love my P90X results. As some of you know, a few weeks ago, I tore a ligament in my foot during an intense trail running session. My foot was  in a cast for 6 weeks now. I have 3 weeks to go. But that did not stop me. I am still doing P90X upper body (with modifications), Ab Ripper X, and riding my stationary bike!

So, no matter what, you can incorporate some aspect of P90X into your life to continue getting great fitness results and living a healthy lifestyle. I am already putting together my fitness plan for when I recover from my injury to slowly get back to my activities, and P90X will be part of that plan.

john salley does p90xOn Sunday mornings, the original muscle beach in Santa Monica CA gets a healthy dose of muscle confusion. You see Tony Horton, the creator of P90X is there working out with a group of friends. They hit the sand for some fun in the sun and of course, some sweat. Open to the public, this weekly workout attracts P90X disciples of all shapes and sizes. It was here recently that a new exciting member of the P90X club showed up: John “Spider” Salley. John is a 4-time NBA champion! At the height of his career, he was an NBA rockstar!

After 12 years in the NBA, John turned to TV and was host of the “Best Damn Sports Show” for 7 years. John Salley was also recently involved in celeb reality shows. He was also inspired to get back in shape. Then he found P90X.

p90x legs and back reviewThe P90X Legs and Back workout with Tony Horton is 59 minutes of highly effective exercises that work your upper body and develop your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves. The first time I did P90X Legs and Back, my legs and glutes were burning like crazy! I just breathed my way through it, determined to keep up! The great thing about the back exercises is that your legs get a much deserved break while you work the upper body.

Although the legs and back P90X DVD is low impact, be aware that you will put stress on your joints. If you have pain in your joints or bad knees, proceed with caution or see your doctor.

Tony starts off the P90X legs and back routine with a great warm up routine and stretch, where you will be running in place, doing jumping jacks, and going through a series of stretches. Don’t skip the warm up and stretch! You need to prepare your body for what is coming next.

Then the real fun starts. The very first exercise is a balance lunge, where the top of your foot is on a chair and you lunge outward with the other leg. Now, deep lunge 25 times. Right then, I knew I was in trouble!
You get a leg rest every third exercise. The pattern followed is two leg exercises followed by one upper body exercise.

If the Super Skater and Side Lunges don’t get you, the single wall squat will. You squat with one leg only, the other leg straight out in front and then alternate every ten seconds. This exercise requires lots of mental discipline to get the job done! You should reward your body with the P90X Results and Recovery formula after your workout to help reduce your muscle soreness!

It is tough but if you get through these exercises successfully, your legs and glutes will be stronger and better than ever. I learned to love the wall squats because they are a great challenge and I conquered it!

The upper body exercises are a unique series of pullups. Although they are difficult on their own, they seemed easy after the P90X leg exercises and I was thankful for them!

Be sure to stick around for the stretches at the end. After a killer lower body workout, you need to stretch out those calves, quads, and hamstrings!

For the upper body exercises, you will need either a pull-up bar or resistance bands. For the lower body exercises, you will need weights or bands and one wall.

Which P90X Legs and Back exercise is your favorite?

Truth about belly fatIf you have a large belly, then you have a spare tire around your middle. If you are already working out, you are well on your way to losing it. Great! That fat around your middle can cause lots of problems if you do not reduce it. According to the Mayo Clinic, your belly fat surrounds your abdominal organs and can cause you serious internal health like:

  • Heart disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Sleep apnea

If you are concerned, just get a tape measure and measure your waist. For men, if your waist measure 40 inches or more, you are carrying too much belly fat. For women, 35 inches or more is too much! Reducing your waistline takes work but it can be fun too!

Just 30 minutes a day of high intensity aerobic exercise will help you lose that belly fat. If you are just starting out, Slim in 6 or Hip Hop Abs are great choices. If you want a more intense workout, try Power 90 or P90X!

But exercise alone won’t be enough. You also need a healthy diet of whole grains, lean protein, fruits, and veggies to help you lose those extra inches. Don’t forget to limit your alcohol intake!

P90X is a tough fitness program that pushed my muscles to the nth degree! I was sore in all sorts of new places from the P90X workouts and the X Stretch was a welcome relief! In the P90X 90-day at home fitness program, you have a choice on day 7 – Rest or X Stretch. I chose X Stretch every time and I am glad I did!

X Stretch is a very comprehensive stretching routine that lasts for about 60 minutes. You may wonder, how much stretching can a person do? Well, X Stretch takes care of stretching out your muscles, from your head to your toes! All I can say is that I felt great after every P90X X Stretch day. After putting my best efforts into my P90X routine, the stretching helped me a lot improve my flexibility.

More important, it helped other problem areas of my body. You see I work on a computer all day so I always end up with a host of problems, like: shoulder impingements, sore hands (carpel tunnel), forward shoulders, tense neck and shoulders, tight hip flexors, and more – you get the idea! Tony does a great job of stretching out all the neck and upper back muscles, what a relief! I also love the wrist-forearm and Dreya forearm stretches. P90X resultsWhen I started P90X, tony Horton’s 90-day fitness program, my goal was to get lean, toned arms and tight abs. In addition to reaching my goal and getting great P90X results, I also ended up getting some unexpected results, which are a testimonial to the Beachbody mission of changing lives.
