If you are doing the P90X 90-day fitness program by Beachbody, then you know how hard it is! Many people get burned out and tired, losing the energy that’s needed to get through the P90X workouts.
Here are some tips to keep your energy levels high while doing P90X by Tony Horton.
As Tony Horton has said, “Your body runs on food you put in your mouth”. Exercise is not enough – to get great results, pay attention to what you are eating. Many people make the mistake of eating too few calories while doing P90X. They think that the fewer calories they eat, the more weight they will lose. This is not necessarily true! If you lower your calorie intake too much, your body will think it’s starving and your metabolism will slow down, making it harder to lose weight and lowering your energy levels.
P90X is an advanced fitness program and you need proper fuel to maintain the high energy levels you will need to complete the P90X program. Make sure you determine your daily nutrition and caloric needs. The P90X Nutrition guide explains this on page 5. You can easily figure our your caloric intake needs by using your resting metabolic rate, daily activity burn, and the calories required for your exercise needs.
Let’s be honest here. You don’t need to lose all your weight in the first 2 weeks of the P90X program! Many times I get email from people who are disappointed because they cannot see their abs or they have not yet lost weight in the first 2 weeks of P90X! It took a long time for you to get out of shape, and now you need to be patient while getting back into shape.
If you already figured out your caloric needs and are running out of energy during your P90X workouts, then you need to look at recalculating your calories. Be smart about this. If you think adding a fatty bagel with cream cheese is going to do the trick, you are wrong! This type of food can add as much as 400 – 500 calories which is too much!
You probably only need as addtional 200 – 300 calories to increase your energy levels. Nuts, dried fruits, Shakeology protein drink, or P90X protein bar are perfect choices to give the right amount of calories in a nutritious way!
If you are eating the right amount of calories but still feeling wiped out during your P90X exercise, it could be due to eating too far before you exercise. If you eat lunch at noon, and exercise at 5 PM with no food in-between, you will be likely be to tired to have a good workout.
Eat smart and eat enough. Read the P90X Nutrition Guide prior to starting P90X. Sticking to a good nutrition plan is half the battle!
