Shaun T’s newest intense fitness program is INSANITY. You can get the base Insanity 10 DVD exercise package, or the
Insanity Deluxe 13 DVD package. Which should you get and are the extra Insanity workout DVDs worth the price? Let’s compare the Insanity base kit with the Deluxe kit.
(Buy at TeamBeachbody.com – lowest shipping cost)
The price difference between the base kit and Deluxe kit is $44.85. That is $14.95 per DVD.

I did a search on the Internet to find out the average price of any random fitness DVD. The average price is $14.95 – $29.95 for a single workout DVD. Many of the fitness DVDs I found will not give you near the intense and amazing workout you get with Shaun T! So, $14.95 is extremely reasonable for each of the extreme fitness DVDs you get with Insanity Deluxe.
Let’s take a look at the 3 DVDs that come with Insanity Deluxe. You be the judge and decide which Insanity package is for you.
Insanity Deluxe includes:
- 10 DVDs from the base kit
- Elite Nutrition Plan – designed to fuel your body for these intense workouts.
- Fitness Guide – short and to the point. It’s just the information you need. We want you working out—not reading.
- INSANITY™ Calendar – organized into month 1 & month 2 to track your progress, set workout goals, and keep you motivated. Plus, the Fit Test Tracker tracks your results as you watch your body transform before your eyes.
You also get these 3 workouts:
- MAX Interval Sports Training – Shaun T, a former track star, designed these workouts for elite athletes. The MAX Interval Training exercises are extremely difficult to do. These exercises are far over and above the intense exercises seen on the 10 DVDs. If you want a REAL challenge, this is it. Get pushed to your absolute max as Shaun pushes you through the same moves he uses to train professional athletes. Read our review of Insanity Max Interval Sports Training.
- Insane Abs – Although there are ab exercises included in the 10 DVD set, this 33 minute insane ab routine will take you to new levels of ab training. You start with a crazy 5 minute warmup that will challenge you with moves like Power Jumps, and T-Kicks. Next, you do all the exercises on the floor without ever laying down! Can you balance on your buttocks like a V shape and then do all sorts of moves that hit your abs from all directions? I barely made it throught the first few times but it’s fun and does a great job of toning the abs.
- Upper-Body Weight Training – Go one on one with Shaun to work your chest, back, arms, and shoulders. These are not quite the traditional upper body moves that you are familiar with. You don’t just do chest press … you do chest press with head and shoulders off the bench to work your abs at the same time. Shaun goes through the workouts like a circuit. When you come back around to the first one, you increase the weights and decrease the repetitions. Shaun T’s upper body weight training workout is 43 minutes of pushing yourself through tough moves. Insanity Deluxe packages the original 10 DVDs in a separate DVD holder then the additional 3 DVDs. The 3 DVDs come in two packages. One holds Insane Abs and MAX Interval Training, and a separate sleeve holds the Upper Body Weight Training DVD.
Is Insanity Deluxe worth it? Absolutely. You will love the extra 3 DVDs.

Nice review. I have a question. For the weight lifting DVD, how does it incorporate into the program? Do you have to have a bench, etc., for that workout?
Hi Chris!
Good question. The Insanity Upper Body Weight Training DVD requires some equipment. You’ll need weights like dumbbells in varying sizes. Shaun does 3 rounds of each exercise circuit. The first, you do a weight where you can perform 12 reps. The next round, you do a heavier weight for 10 reps, and the final round you take it heavier for 8 reps. Resistance bands are NOT used in Insanity Upper Body Weight Training.
The final set of exercises are chest press with dumbbells (Shaun T style!) which are performed on a weight training bench. I do not have one of these so I use an ottoman/table in my living room which works fine.
If you have further questions, let me know. I really love the extra workouts that come with the Deluxe set!
Best always

I bought Insanity about a month ago. I’m half-done w/the program and so far I LOVE IT!!!! In one month my fitness level has increased exponentially, I have dropped pounds and inches and I am stronger and more toned in my arms, legs, butt and abs. It’s an amazing, although very difficult and challenging program. It’s worth it!!
Where does the Upper Weight Training DVD come into the program schedule?
According to Shaun T, you can do the Insanity upper body weight training 2 – 3 times per week.
I’m currently training for a marathon running 15-30 miles a week. What’s your opinion on doing insanity while engaging in this kind of training?
How do I incorporate the Upper Weight Training DVD? Do you substitute for another DVD or do the Upper Weight Training DVD after another workout (workout regularly in the morning and then do the Upper Weight Training DVD at night).
It depends on how you feel. You can either substitute and then continue the regularly scheduled workouts where you left off the next day, or followup the scheduled Insanity workout with the Upper Weight Training DVD. It’s a good one the Upper Body! Love it!
Can you actually weigh train and do the program at the same time?
which workouts do you recommend subbing for the upper body weight program?
thanks
Guys please help, i got this delux package. Can you guys tell me which program to Substitute with Upper Body Training? I know Shaun T says it should be done 2-3 times per week, but isn’t it going to mess up the schedule somehow?
Please Help.
Hey guys,
A lot of people are wondering exactly how to incorporate the weight training into the Insanity workout, so here’s my two cents: I do Insanity every morning-before work, travel, or whatever I have. Then I go to work (or at least wait a few hours) and once I’m recovered I hit the gym. In addition to running, swimming, and doing calisthenics and core work I weight train Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Monday and Friday are upper body while Tuesday and Saturday are lower. Since I just decided to begin actually using my deluxe DVDs I’m not sure whether I’ll use the weight training DVD on both Monday and Friday or just use it one day and do a more traditional workout the other. Just remember that if you’re going to be using weights I’d recommend doing lower body as well so you don’t end up looking like a chicken.
Also, I know my workout schedule is pretty intense right now. I’m not a meathead.
