On January 1, 2012, millions of people will wake up excited about their New Year’s fitness resolutions. By the end of January, 95% of those people will have failed at those New Year’s resolutions for one reason or another. Don’t be one of them!
Here are 4 tips to help you succeed with your fitness resolutions this New Year’s. Remember, this is going to be a lifestyle change and not a quick fix or fad.
- Choose a meaningful fitness goal: What is your WHY? Without an emotional investment in your goal, it will be harder to stay motivated to achieve it. Own it!
- Set Realistic Goals: For example, a goal of losing 50 pounds is NOT realistic and will never happen. Think about what you are asking of yourself. If you need to lose 50 pounds, break it down to a few pounds a week and go from there.
- Write it Down: People who write down their goals are more successful than those that don’t. Writing down your New Year’s fitness resolutions will help you clarify what you want to accomplish. On days where it’s difficult for you to stick to your action plan, re-read your goal to help you stay focused. Also, be sure to track your progress so you can easily see results over time.
- Take Action: “I’ll start tomorrow.” “I’ll start new week.” No way, start right now. Don’t wait because we all know that tomorrow never comes. What steps can you take right now to get you closer to achieving your goal? Beachbody Challenge packs are a great way to get you going with a fitness program, nutrition, and support.
If you really want to makes changes to your health this year, be honest with yourself. Take the steps necessary to make it happen. Think about this: if you continue doing what you have been doing, will you be satisfied with where your weight (or health) is in a year?
Make this YOUR year to stick with those New Year’s fitness resolutions and achieve your fitness goals. Think about how you want to look and feel in a year! You can do it!
